What is nail fungus?
Nail fungus, also known as onychomycosis, is the most common nail disease.
Fungal nail infections affect the toenails and fingernails of 1 in 5 adults, half of the elderly population and it can even affect children. 5A, 6A, B,C
Nail fungal infections can be caused by fungi living in the environment that get under a nail through small cracks or surrounding skin.10B, 12A Nail fungus develops slowly and the symptoms are very slight, so the onset of the infection can be easy to miss. The condition is contagious, usually starting in one nail, but may gradually spread to others. It commonly affects toenails, but can also affect fingernails. 5A,B
The first symptom of nail fungus is often a small white or yellow spot under the tip of your nail. As the nail fungus grows or spreads, affected nails can become thickened and fragile, cracking easily. Discolouration can develop as debris gets trapped under the nail. If left untreated, the infection can spread.5E,F, 10B, 12B,C

Three easy steps to healthier nails:
1. Cover each nail with a thin layer of the solution.
2. It is important that the solution is also applied under the free edge of any affected nail. Press lightly on the tube.
3. After application, the nail should be allowed to dry for a few minutes.1A, 8D
Nail fungus can be a challenge to treat as the infection is embedded in the nail. 7A Apply BETADINE™ EMTRIX™ Fungal Nail Solution once a day to your affected nails, pressing lightly on the tube; it is a good idea to make the treatment a routine before turning in at night. It is important that the solution is also applied under the free edge of any affected nail. After application, the nail should be allowed to dry for a few minutes. 1A, 8D
Even if you see a rapid improvement, the fungus will not disappear until the infected nail is fully replaced by a healthy new nail. So, it is important that you do not stop the treatment before the new nail has fully grown out. For fingernails, this process can take up to six months and for toenails, up to 12 months. 1A, 7F
