If you experience any of these symptoms, you may have a bacterial or fungal infection on the scalp. Seek the advice of a doctor or pharmacist if your condition is widespread or if symptoms have worsened or haven't improved after a few days.
For fungal infections, the length of treatment depends on what type of infection you have, how severe it is and if you have any other health problems, for example, problems with your immune system. Some courses of treatment can be as short as a few days, other courses can be as long as eight weeks (for example, for ringworm infection of the scalp).47
If you have a mild bacterial infection, it'll likely clear up in a few days with basic self-care measures. For more serious or recurring symptoms, you may need to see a doctor or pharmacist.26
